Morgan Johnson Norwood is fascinated by family traditions, stories, and memories that each of us conceals in our day-to-day experiences, and by how much of our past affects our present. In creating her works, many recurring symbols appear like recurring dreams. Coming from a background of art making and art teaching, coupled with a rich family language written from Southern roots, Morgan invokes her stories visually instead of with words.

She studied studio art and art education at the University of Georgia, and museum education at George Washington University, where she earned BFA and MAT degrees, respectively. Her art has shown regionally in such venues as the Arts Festival of Atlanta, The von Liebig Art Center (Naples, FL), Kramerbooks & Afterwords (Washington, D.C.), and Artworks Studio and Gallery (Reston, VA). Her work is collected publicly and privately nation-wide.

Morgan’s published illustrative work is regularly featured in Fit Yoga magazine, and she has since illustrated two books, Hip Tranquil Chick: A Guide to Life on and Off the Yoga Mat, by D.C.-based yoga instructor Kimberly Wilson, and Gorgeously Green: 8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life, by LA-based author Sophie Uliano. Gorgeously Green was recently featured on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” with the author and actor Julia Roberts.

Morgan teaches. creates, and lives in northern Virginia with her husband, where they are expecting their first child.
